MC500 10/21

I think the most intriguing part of Wednesday’s lecture was that I am beginning to see the connections between the ancient church, as we discuss it in class, and the Greek Orthodox church I am attending as a component of the course work for this class.

For example, Wednesday we discussed how in the church pre-Constantine, there was such an emphasis put on the eucharist and it was held in such high regard that people became afraid of it and would not partake. Just today, one of the members of the church was explaining to me that many people only join in the fellowship bread and not the holy communion because they have not prepared themselves spiritually and are afraid of judgment, as in 1 Corinthians 11:27-29.

  1. I wish Pentecostals possessed this type of fear. The Lord’s Supper is handled with such disrespect and lack of fear. Partaking the body and blood of our Lord and Savior is such a divine, holy, sacred and unique interaction. The impact of this interaction should be more highly regarded and guarded. How much more intimate can you be with the Lord than through this act of communion? Love ya — Daddy
